The new MBPs will be announced on 6th with the free 2-3 day shipping, so MBPs would arrive sooner than the PCs inspite of announcing a week later!

These are products that are now competing directly with the products or the PC industry.....
Apple has always competed directly with PCs and related products.
.....now that Apple is using Intel Processors, all they really have going for them are their ability to run OS X and their design
When were those not the only distinctions Apple had? I mean, who really bought Macs because they had processors based on a different ISA?

do you dial numbers every time you use your phone? I have a samsung t809, and i don't slide it down most of the time, unless i want to answer it that way. It's kinda fun, but it's not required to answer the phone.

oh yeah, this plays aac's and any song as a ringtone. so that makes ringtone purchases 0.00 if you own the song already... what a concept!
My friend has that phone, it's amazing.
THESE SLIDER PHONES ARE A HUGE HIT RIGHT NOW!
Some of you may not like the slider style, but most consumers love it. And love the idea of a True music playing cell phone that can replace your iPod (nano at least)

Wonderful... why would Apple choose the carrier with the worst coverage and customer service (well, besides Sprint)??? T-Mobile or Verizon would be better choices...
You know, if Cingular didn't spend the $$$ to get all of the cool phones first, I think they would be out of business by now... If someone has had a different experience with Cingular, please let me know ;)
I still think Apple should go the Mobile Virtual Network Operator route ala Virgin Mobile, Helio, Amp'd, mobile ESPN, etc.
Wow... by the sounds of it, there's no single network in the US that actually works for everyone everywhere. Nasty. So perhaps exclusivity's a strange strategy - I hope it's only a short term plan for you guys' sake.
I take it Verizon = CDMA? There's no way Apple would consider a CDMA model since it'd be a serious disadvantage in the global market.
[edit] Also, setting up as a MVNO in each country in which they want to operate would cost a fortune. Besides, they've also then got to market and sell a network - establish a reputation in the mobile phone market as a carrier, and not just as a brand of phone.

The sources pointed out that the USB 3.0 technology currently seems like it will become a transitional product with Thunderbolt to become the finalized next-generation transmission technology.http://www.digitimes.com/NewsShow/NewsSearch.asp?DocID=PD000000000000000000000000019434&query=APPLE

Of course they're complementary. USB for the mouses, joysticks, and dancing desk toys. Thunderbolt for real I/O like hard drives and RAID. Same as how it's always been, only now we'll have Thunderbolt slowly replacing Firewire.
All my external devices are Firewire today: multiple hard drives, DVD burner, video camera, flat bed scanner, card reader, and audio mixer. The only USB devices I have is my mouse. I suppose I'll slowly migrate to Thunderbolt as I upgrade, but Intel's new USB announcement won't change any of this. Maybe my mouse will work faster? lol.

I don't claim to know a thing about trademark law, but looking at this simply I find it difficult to understand how the term "Windows" can become a trademark but "App Store" cannot.

wake up then, because it won't happen for awhile.
The current enclosure is very nice, so why change it?
Because people are so scared of immediate obsolescence that they'd rather hope for a new enclosure than enjoy what is currently out. It gets really old.

Sorry to crash the party, but it would seem a little strange for Apple to upgrade the MacBook and/or MB Pro's until sometime after the 16th when their current college promotion ends. Promotion = clearing out old stock (of notebooks & iPods).

Hello Mr. Condescending, and glad you could join us.
There are arguments agreeing with you and those that disagree with you for equally good reasons. It's been all over these boards for the last several weeks, so you're not telling anyone anything they haven't thought, said, heard, or argued for or against. While I can definitely see both sides to this worn debate, in all honestly, I have no idea when Apple will release the C2D systems. And neither do you (or do you? :o )
But hey! That's why were here. To speculate, argue, and spread wild rumors based on tiny grains of truth.

Have you ever actually watched Netflix or Hulu on a iPhone or iPad over 3G? It totally sucks - not even close to what it looks like when stored locally, especially on the iPad.
Tony
my point is that they stream from a location and aren't stored locally....
they stream fine for me.

Apple should produce a really light and small MacBook Air: 400 to 600 g and 7-inches. The Mac in your pocket. Always.
You have big pockets!

Samsung can easily be replaced. Apple doesn't need them.

From looking at the picture, should it be a fact that the red iPod nano is coming out? It doesn't look like a rumor that I see red iPod nanos on display.
It's fact, not rumor. One of my friends was there while they were doing stuff with it, and the picture is obviously not photoshopped. They talked about it on CBS as well.

The fact that the new iMacs can't address more than 3Gb of memory and are therefore operating on a 32bit logic-board makes me doubtful as to whether or not these systems are really 64-bit capable... It seems like some kind of hybrid 32/64bit system.
Will the C2D iMacs be able to run 64bit code, despite not having the 64bit address space (and being able to access over 4Gb or RAM)?
I would expect so. I would think that userland apps will get a 64bit address space that's just mapped to 32bits in the kernel. But I've been known to be wrong before. :)

Yeah, the fact that there are no Mac viruses and Mac trojans are spectacularly unsuccessful means nothing.
And IOS devices are sitting ducks, being locked down to the point where users cannot load un-vetted applications.

Handgun users (either for private use or professional use) are taught to shoot center mass. The head shot was most likely a stray round and not intentionally. This guy was probably aiming center mass.
How could you aim for the center mass not in the head if the person was sitting in a car (likely still firing at the guard while attempting to get away)? From article:
The male suspects and their alleged female accomplice then got into a silver Acura that crashed while still inside the shopping center's parking lot, Facicci said, noting that one of the men was driving and he died in the crash. He appears to have been killed by a bullet that went through the passenger window, Chula Vista Police said.

Well, it wasn't just this lawsuit. Five lawsuits were settled @ $20M a suit + no distractions of dragging this out... Plus they now are paid up FOREVER to use this license + they could recoup some money if Licenses are granted to others... doesn't sound as drastic as $100M is suddenly down the toilet. There's some value there for Apple. Apple appears even to be booking the license as an asset on their balance (http://episteme.arstechnica.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/174096756/m/560002960831?r=945004960831#945004960831) sheet and hence the cost of it will be amortized overtime (asset depreciation).

...I would like to be able to purchase a machine without an integrated display (aka iMac). This machine would have a graphics card in a standard slot so that it can upgraded. It would be great also to be able to remove and upgrade the hard disk, space for a second hard disk is would be a nice to have.
Currently I'm stuck in the middle between an iMac (I want a separate display, and some upgrade paths) and Mac Pro (too upgradeable for my needs, and way too expensive).
Apple really needs a pro-sumer box.

OMG! This app is great! Now that I've played with it some I LOVE it!
It's freak'n hilarious too! You can change your alerts to things like "Hillbilly", or NY Cab driver. This is a really cool app and great for car clubs too as it has a caravan feature and you can track all the people in your caravan.
